May: Carolina Harbor Opens, Boogie Board Racer Debuts

Carolina Harbor, Carowinds’ in-park water park opens for the season on Friday, May 21. With the opening of Carolina Harbor comes the debut of the longest mat racing slide in the Southeast, Boogie Board Racer. The slide features six multi-colored lanes of tubes, high-speed chutes and a thrilling 360-degree horizontal loop. SUMMER!

June: Grand Carnivale

After its debut at four other parks in the chain last season, “the spectacle of color, unlike any other” that is Grand Carnivale is coming to Carowinds beginning in June 2020. Taking place nightly from June 13 through July 5, 2020, Grand Carnivale is a nighttime international festival and street party celebrating global culture in grand scale, with signature beverages and a unique international food options. (Having experienced Grand Carnivale in person at Kings Dominion last year, Carowinds guests will be in for a treat!)

July: Celebrate America and Carolina Summer Nights

It wouldn’t be Independence Day without Fireworks, and Carowinds is celebrating with not one, but two nights of their “Celebrate America” Fireworks show, on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4. This year, the fourth of July falls during Grand Carnivale. After celebrating cultures and traditions from all around the world, stick around to celebrate the good ol’ red, white and blue with a favorite American tradition — fireworks! The Celebrate America Fireworks show sets the sky ablaze in one of the Charlotte area’s largest and most impressive displays of patriotic fanfare.

Later in July, Carolina Summer Nights will help close out the summer season! Featuring house bands who know just what to play to get those toes tapping, a silent disco, fun games, immersive activities, Carolina Summer Nights will provide lots of opportunities to hang out with family and friends for lifelong memories.

FALL!

September/October: SCarowinds Turns 20!

SCarowinds, one of our favorite annual events at Carowinds, is celebrating its 20th birthday this year. How are they going to celebrate? With all-new grisly and gruesome, of course. Keep looking over your shoulder, because EVERY. SINGLE. THING you fear is at SCarowinds.

Whether you’ve visited SCarowinds at at some point during the 20 years of fear, or if this is your first time, Carowinds promises that you’ll sleep with the lights on after experiencing this new generation of SCarowinds. Every corner will be cursed afresh with haunted mazes, scare zones and live (or maybe not live) entertainment. Hordes of hungry zombies and blood-thirsty vampires eagerly await you – i.e. their next meal. And those wicked screams! There’s just no escaping them!

September/October: The Great Pumpkin Fest

If blood, guts and gore isn’t necessarily your “speed,” then consider checking out Carowinds’ daytime halloween offerings at The Great Pumpkin Fest. Great Pumpkin Fest offers one-of-a-kind Halloween events for kids throughout the park! At Camp Snoopy, you’ll find play zones, costume contests and dance parties with Snoopy and the whole PEANUTS™ gang. At Blue Ridge Junction, there are loads of family-friendly games and activities.

November: Peanuts Celebration

Coming back to Carowinds for its second season is the Peanuts Celebration, which celebrates Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Charles Schulz-comic gang. Taking place on Saturdays and Sundays the first three weekends in November, the Peanuts Celebration is a fantastic way to “bridge the gap” between Scary and Merry as the park transforms for WinterFest. While not all of the rides are operational due to maintenance or other reasons, we firmly believe that the Peanuts Celebration is one of the best times to visit Carowinds!

WINTER!

December: WinterFest!

If you’re looking to walk through a “Winter Wonderland,” look no further than WinterFest at Carowinds, which is returning for the fourth consecutive year in 2020. WinterFest is the Charlotte area’s most immersive holiday attraction with a sleigh-full of fun things to do for Christmas. WinterFest takes place on select nights, beginning on November 27, and concluding on December 31.

Whether you just want to see more than 5 million holiday lights, “dash through the snow” on several of the open rides (including Copperhead Strike!), enjoy some holiday entertainment, or enjoy some festive holiday fare (because calories don’t count between Thanksgiving and Christmas), there’s something for everyone at WinterFest! Don’t miss out on the WinterFest Wonderland Parade, which was new in 2019!

December (And An hour of January!) WinterFest New Years Eve!

If you haven’t quite gotten your fill of Carowinds or the holiday season, Carowinds has a special WinterFest New Year’s Eve event on the last day of 2020. In addition to the wonder and merriment of WinterFest, Carowinds brings in several live music acts to ring in the new year! If you’re lucky, (like we were in 2018 going into 2019) you might be able to get your last coaster ride of 2020 and first ride of 2021 at the same time! Even if you’re not riding when the ball drops at midnight, Carowinds has a fantastic fireworks show, right at the stroke of midnight!

Before you know it, 2020 will be over, but hopefully you can make it to several Carowinds events! We’ll be making it to as many as we can!

For more information about Carowinds’ events, be sure to visit the park’s website, and follow the park on social media: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
